What we do

Digital product passport technology that companies can actually operate

We are dedicated to pioneering digital product passport technology that enables brands and manufacturers to seamlessly integrate sustainability into their operations, promote circularity and foster trust with consumers.

In practice that means the unglamorous part: connecting the product information companies already hold, structuring and validating it, and turning it into a persistent product identity that stays useful long after the passport is published.

Why it exists

A digital product passport avant la lettre

  1. 2013Rana Plaza collapses
  2. 2014Fashion Revolution and #whomademyclothes
  3. 2019First proof of concept built
  4. 2020Mathias meets Christof — Quifactum is born
  5. TodayDPP infrastructure in production

In 2013, the Rana Plaza garment factory in Bangladesh collapsed. A year later, Fashion Revolution was founded and the question #WhoMadeMyClothes? began travelling around the world.

That question resonated with Mathias Slabbinck, who had spent more than 25 years in his family's textile business. He had seen first-hand that customers valued a product differently after visiting the workshop in Bruges and discovering how — and by whom — it was made.

The idea emerged to bring that transparency to every product through a kind of “virtual visit” to the workshop: a Digital Product Passport avant la lettre.

The name Quifactum

The name Quifactum was inspired by the Latin words quis and factum — a reference to the question that started the journey:

“Who made it?”

There is another idea embedded in the name: fact.

Quifactum is infrastructure for making product data accessible. It is not a certification body. We structure and distribute the information and evidence connected to a product; we do not certify that information or turn claims into facts simply by publishing them.

“When I started exploring this idea in 2014, it was ahead of its time. In 2019 I built the first proof of concept, and after meeting Christof in 2020, Quifactum was born. Today, what started as a way to tell the story behind a product has evolved into infrastructure for persistent digital product identities — helping companies prepare for Digital Product Passport regulation while enabling transparency, circularity and new services throughout the product lifecycle.”
